How to measure: U-length (below the fitting/head). Probe length is measured from the BOTTOM of the fitting or connection head to the probe tip — the part of the sheath that sits inside the process. Anything above the fitting is not counted. (Driven by your Step 8 termination — change the termination and this guidance updates.)

These probe lengths pair with Valley's common thermowell stock (3/4" longer than the probe). Picking one means we likely have a matching thermowell ready to ship together.

8Termination — Inline / Lead-out

Spring-loaded fitting (+$35)Internal spring keeps the probe tip pressed against the bottom of the thermowell — improves response time and accuracy. Recommended whenever the probe goes into a thermowell.

9Termination — Connection Heads

Pick a connection head if the probe terminates inside an enclosure. Otherwise leave the inline / lead-out selection above.

10Lead Insulation / Max Operating Temperature

Important: the platinum element + 316SS sheath are good to ~870°C, but the leads brazed to the wire-wound element typically aren't. The lead insulation, not the sheath, sets the practical max operating temperature of the assembly.
